IN THE SECRET SERVICE OF THE REALM

the women in Swedish Intelligence Service during the Second World War

During the Second World War, hundreds of women are recruited for various missions within the Swedish intelligence service.

As hotel chambermaids or secretaries, they are able to infiltrate the war organisations of other nations and deliver important information to the Swedish Defence. Some play key parts thanks to their valuable connections within the entertainment circles of Stockholm. Others take part in the secret endeavours to decipher encrypted messages from foreign powers.

After the war, the efforts of these women remain a well-kept secret. Archive materials are destroyed and witnesses reminded that they are bound by professional secrecy. To this day, we can but catch a glimpse of what happened through tiny keyholes of history.

The exhibition is producerad by Armémuseum in Stockholm.
